What's In A Name

What's in a name
Well lets start at the begining my name is Lovenia MeJai Popwell, my maiden name is Smith, the only somewhat common part of the whole thing. I am often asked to repeat or spell my name several times. My name is a combo of my grandparents name. I often say that my mother was on crack when pregnant with me, but no no excuses. It could be worse, no it really could be, It was my mothers turn to have twins as it runs in our family skipping two generations at a time. Thank God it skipped mine..really Thank You God, for you know my limitations. My great Grandmother Alice Viola Beard had a set of red headed twin girls Jane and Janis. Two common names for girls, so how does a woman named Viola come up with plain jane and janis? Violas family is filled with piculiar names we had a Tivis Artemus,Tivis Artemus Jr.( who we called Bug),Saphorinie, Aunt Leaner, Aunt Danner, Brack, Neusum Kay (Male) Eda Bell (who was called midgette, neither name is verry flattering),which brings us to my name sake (or am I their name sake?) Lovenia,Melba and James.
My Mothers name is Debra Louise, who I was not her first attempt at a creative name she had a doll who she lovingly named Suki Blue Skin, this doll was captured by the neighbors boy and burried somewhere in the back yard of my grandmothers house, we have yet to find little suki. I told you earlier that my name could have been worse, along with the reference to twins. I was thought to be a twin Lovenia MeJai and get this Jandeana Deshay. I am sure that my grammer is a little off on the above mentioned names hence the red squigly lines under them all. If you pronounce them like they are spelled and with a little imagination you will get the jist of how they are each pronounced. Well why stop the creative flow with my generation. While pregnant with my first daughter I tried to the think of a name for a little girl that would not only be cute at the time of her birth but would not be too faddish. Avalyn the name is inspired by my love of Anne of Greene Gables, and Ann of Avonlea. I loved the name Avonlea but thought it a bit much so we(I)went with Avalyn . I tried to pair it with an older name so Grace became the middle. Avalyn Grace or Avie as we call her. The second girl was much easier we went with a family name Elizabeth Melba's middle name. Again paired with an older name Kate. Elizabeth Kate or as we call her Eliza. My mother still debates with me her name should be Katherine Elizabeth..really? a little much I think.
So this is what is in a name. Evidintly the creative name making is in our genes I have had numerous pets over the years with quite creative(weird) names,a cat named kissyfur,Kellco(calico I thought it was creative, a 7 year olds attempt of a play on words) Dog named furlow, kitten named grafitti and a large collie named eggo. Well the fun dosent stop hear I have passed this dominant gene to my girls. Avie has had a cat named Mr. Beasly, two cattapillars Calli and Mr. Britches, and now our current dogs Sue-B-Que and Shoe-May.
Eliza is showing a lot of potential also she has pony named sweety Bell and has renamed Mary and Joseph from our nativity scene to Murray and Jovis. I am debating whether or not I should tell her that they are not an Irish/Roman same sex couple.
well that for now is whats in a name, a long line of creative women naming the world one unforgettable name at a time.
